SelfCAD Slicer: All you Need to Know
A 3D slicer is a software that translates a 3D model into instructions that can be understood by a 3D printer. That is, it converts an STL file into a G-Code. The slicer usually divides the model into a stack of layers with specific movements to guide the model on how it’s printed. Examples of slicing software available include the following:
- Ultimaker
- Cura
- Kisslicer
- Slic3r
You can check out the main 3D printer slicers. SelfCAD slicer is one of the available 3D printer slicers and it’s similar to Cura Slicer and it has almost the same features. This in-built slicer allows you to slice your models and generate the G-Code without having to switch to another separate software. Unlike other 3D modeling software where after modeling or sculpting your designs and you want to 3D print, you switch to another program, everything is done in the program.
How to Use SelfCAD Slicer
After you’ve designed your model, you can use the Magic Fix Tool to fix any meshes on your design. To access the Slicer, click on the 3D Print found in the top right section of the interface as demonstrated below.
After you’ve clicked on 3Dprint, you will be able to access the list of 3D printers. You can use the Search Bar on the top right-hand section to search for your preferred printer so that you can access it easily.
Once you choose your 3D printer, there will be to customize your settings. For example, in my case, I have set Quality to Normal, Infill to 35% and Material set to ABS. Then after specifying your settings click on Slice.
There is also the 3D Printing Animation Feature. This allows you to see how your model will be 3D printed in SelfCAD. You can specify the speed of the animation.

You can then save the G-code to your computer to send it to a 3D printer. The following are the advantages of SelfCAD slicer when compared to other Slicers.
- It’s easier to customize and use.
- It’s suited for both beginners and professionals who want to 3D print their models without hassle.
- It can be used for both simple and complex models
- It’s compatible with all types of FDM 3D printers.
- You can access it wherever you’re as it runs on the cloud hence no need for downloading.
- The print quality is great.
If you’re looking for an easy to use and great 3D printer slicer, SelfCAD is a great choice. Though it's similar to popular slicers like Cura, this slicer will help you generate great 3D prints with ease. It’s also great for beginners because of its ease of use. Advanced users too can use it to 3D print complex and large designs. Even if one chooses to switch to another 3D slicer, one will not face a hard moment as SelfCAD slicer settings are similar to that for most of the available general slicers.
Enjoy powerful modeling, rendering, and 3D printing tools without the steep learning curve.
