How to Use a 3D Design Software to Create Dual letter Illusion

In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to create white and black words in a unique way in SelfCAD software. We are going to use the freehand drawing, stitch and scoop, and many other tools of SelfCAD.

3D modeling is an exciting skill to learn, but not everyone can understand it. If you are interested in learning 3D designing, the Interactive tutorials of SelfCAD is handy as it helps you get started with much ease and you don’t have to spend a lot of hours watching videos or reading guides.

So, let’s begin!

Step 1: Creating word with the help of Freehand Tool

We will start with creating the word. With the help of the Freehand Tool, we can make the word that we want. With Freehand, we can also create other objects. Activate Freehand: From the Drawing Category on the Toolbar, choose Freehand or use the shortcut (F+B).

Activate Text: On the tool, the panel type the Text or use a shortcut (F+T). Type the text that you want; we will type Black. Next, set Font to Roboto.

In the Plane List available in the Plane setting, select Back/Front, and Top/Bottom is already selected. In Height Setting, set Height to 200. These will be the height of words. Here are other parameters like Bottom/ Front, Left/Right that we can choose; depending on the arrangement, we need to align the text.

If we select Left/Right then, it will look as follows:

In precision setting: Set Snap to grid vertices to True. As the other two are already selected.

With Text, we can create various modified Text, words, etc.

For example, you can see we have created SelfCAD.

With Freehand, there are many other options like Brush, Line, rectangle, Spineline, Circle, etc.

Following is the example of the Rectangle Tool with a star pattern. You can create many freehand objects with this tool.

Step 2: Creating White word with Freehand Tool

Activate the Freehand Drawing:

From the Drawing Category on the Toolbar, choose Freehand or use the shortcut (F+B).

Activate Text: On the tool, the panel chooses Text or uses a shortcut (F+T). Next, set Font to Roboto, Type Text to White.

In the Plane List available in the Plane setting, select Left/Right. In Height Setting, set Height to 200.

Step 3: Modifying the Words

With Scale, we will rearrange the word. Activate Scale: Choose the Scale Tool option from Toolbar or use shortcut (S). Set y to 50, set x to 200. Close the Transformation Panel.

Let’s select the Object: Click on drawing_1 to select it and drawing_2 to deselect it.

Activate Scale: Choose the Scale option from Toolbar or use shortcut (S). Set x to 200, set y to 50, Close the Transformation Panel.

With scale, we have made the side section more even.

Step 4: Modifying to create the letters

Activate the Intersection: From the Tool Panel, choose the Intersection or use a shortcut (B+I). Close the Tool Panel. With this, we are deleting the other unwanted things, but we just keep letters or words.

Click on Wireframe: Choose the wireframe button to set rendering mode or a shortcut (V+W).

Wireframe makes it easy to know the object clearly and modify the polygon precisely.

Next, we will make the word solid. Click on the Solid Button to set the Rendering or use a shortcut (V+S).

Step 5: Coloring the Words

Now change the color. Click on the Color Picker button to change the color of the Object.

Done with the Color.

Activate Face Selection: Click on activate Face Selection or use a shortcut (Ctrl+1).

Face selection makes it easy to select the face. Now select the faces or regions.

We are going to change the color of these side faces. Click on Color Picker and choose a color.

Choose a white color and click on the OK button.

Next, Deselect the region or face that we have selected or use a shortcut Grid to deselect in one go.

Activate the Object Selection:

Click on a region of the selection cube or use a shortcut (Ctrl+0).

Step 6: Placing letters properly

Click on Rotate from Toolbar or use the shortcut (R). We are going to Transform the Object with Rotate Tool. Set y to 315 and close the transformation Panel.

Activate Move: Click on Move tool from the toolbar or use shortcut (M). Set Y to 20, z to 0. Close the Transformation Panel.

Step 7: Creating the base for words

Now let’s create a new object that is base for word:

Activate Cube: Select Cube from the 3D Shape Category from Toolbar or use shortcut (P+C). Set Width to 300, Height to 20. Finalize the Cube.

We have created the base. Now we will color it.

Click on Color Picker to change the Color of the Object. Choose a color from the picker. Select the Silver color button to change the color of the object. Click on the OK button to confirm the  Color.

We got views from both sides.

If we take a look, we have created the two-word combination, white has white color and black has black color.

Conclusion:
