How to 3D Model a Pumpkin using SelfCAD Software

In this tutorial article, we are 3D designing a pumpkin in a 3D modeling software. We will utilize a few amazing tools like scale, twist, bend, copy offsets, round object tool, 3D shapes, etc., to make this pumpkin. Just by sorting out the way to make a pumpkin, you will similarly get to acknowledge how to use the various tools of SelfCAD.

So, let’s begin!

Step1: Initiation of the design using a sphere object

We will begin by creating a spherical object. First, go to 3D Shapes and insert a sphere on the working interface. Set the radius to 50, horizontal segment 128, vertical segment to 64, and arc to 360.

Next, we will scale this object. For that, we will select the scale tool and set the x-axis to 75.

Step2: Copying the object to make the base of the pumpkin

Then click on the object, go to tools and choose copy offsets. Now change the position into pivot, number of copies into 9, and then click on copy.

Now we will merge all these objects. For that, we will go to utilities and select merge objects.

Next, we will use the scale tool again and scale it along the green axis and bring it vertically downward.

Step3: Adding a cube object on the head of the base

After that, we will create a rectangular object on top of the model that we created. For that, go to 3D shapes and pick the cube object. Now, select that cube object, go to utilities and choose align. Set the reference to mesh and align to the top position.

Next, we will use the scale tool to scale the cube. We will scale it through the center point and make it smaller in size so that it appears like the top head of the pumpkin.

Step 4: Extruding the cube

Now, click on the cube and opt for polygon selection. Select the top face of the cube. Then we will use the extrusion tool to extrude it vertically upward.

Now we will use the scale tool to scale the top face. From the center point, we will scale it to smaller in size.

Step 5: Deforming the cuboid to make it look more professional

Next, we will go to deform and select the bend tool. Then we will bend it along the red axis.

Now we will again go to deform and select the twist tool this time. Then uncheck the polygon option. Now we will twist it along the green axis to 135 degrees.

Step 6: Adding smoothness and scoop to the model

Next, go to modify and select the round object tool to make the object more smooth. Set the smoothness to 3.

Rounding the 3D model

Then we will select the top object and go to sculpting. We will use the standard brush option. Set the size to 10 and intensity to 2. Then apply the brush all over the edges of the object.

We can also do the same process with the bottom object.

Step 7: Applying colors to make it look visually attractive

Finally, we can apply color to the model. So, apply orange color to the base of the model and use dark green for its top.

Conclusion

We have 3D designed a simple 3D pumpkin in SelfCAD. We have used tools that helped us with designing various parts of the pumpkin. With the help of the copy and scale, we have modified the shape the way we wanted. You can use the same strategy to design various designs as per your requirements.
