3D Designing a Flute in SelfCAD
Are you someone who enjoys music? If yes, in this guide, we’re going to show you how you can create your own prototype of a Flute using 3D modeling software. There are many ways you can achieve this, but we prefer using SelfCAD software as it’s easy to use, and you don't need to spend a lot of time or have any experience to be able to 3D design a prototype of a flute. Follow this guide, and you will be able to 3D design the prototype of your flute.
You can even 3D print it if you own a 3D printer. As mentioned earlier, it’s good to use a 3D modeling software that offers you the most capabilities, like helping to prepare your designs for 3D printing. SelfCAD 3D design software allows you to generate the G-code that you can send to your printer with much ease.
This article will help you also to understand various tools of SelfCAD like the Basic 3D shapes, Scale tool, Fillet, Add Thickness, and many others.
Using SelfCAD:
3D modeling is a new way to make your manufacturing process easier. 3-Dimension models have gained a lot of popularity in recent times. 3D Designing is used in many industries like Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Manufacturing, etc. Creating 3D Models with SelfCAD is very much affordable, and cost-effective. Also, it saves time to a great extent. You don't have to waste money and time on making prototypes. With the help of SelfCAD, you’ll be able to do so with much ease.
Let's get started!
Shown below is the Workspace where we are going to create our 3D model. There are tools at the top in the toolbar section.

Step 1: Create Object
We will start by creating new objects. First, we will activate the cylinder. Select the cylinder from the 3D shape category or use a shortcut (P+Y).
Set the parameters according to requirements. So set Top and Bottom Radius to 18, Height to 680, Horizontal Segment to 64, Vertical Segment to 64, and Rotation Z to 90. Finalize the Cylinder.

Click to activate the Polygon Selection or use a shortcut (Ctrl+4). Click on the highlighted region to select it. To make the cylinder hollow, click on the region that is the sides of the Cylinder.
Click on the Delete button to delete the selected region, or use a shortcut (Del).

Step 2: Add Thickness
From the Modify category of the toolbar, choose Add Thickness Tool or use a shortcut (M+A). Set the thickness to -5.
Finalize the Add Thickness. Now we’ve added thickness to the Border of the Cylinder.

Step 3: Create new object
From the 3D Shape Category on the Toolbar, choose Cylinder or use a shortcut (P+Y). Set the parameters according to requirements. Set-top radius to 10, bottom radius to 10, Vertical Segment to 32, and Position Y to 18. Finalize the Cylinder.
Step 4: Activate Move and Copy
Next, click on Move or use a shortcut (M). Now we will copy the recently made cylinder. Click on the Copy button or use a shortcut (Ctrl+C). Set x to -33. Click on the Copy button to copy the selected object or use a shortcut (Ctrl+C). Set x to -65, Click on the Copy button to copy the selected object or use a shortcut (Ctrl+C). Set x to -144, Click on the Copy button to copy the selected object or use a shortcut (Ctrl+C). Set x to -178, Click on the Copy button to copy the selected object or use a shortcut (Ctrl+C). Set x to -260, Click on the Copy button to copy the selected object or use a shortcut (Ctrl+C). Set x to 238. Now close the Transformation Panel.
Now we’ve created the cylinders we’ll use to make holes on the Flute.

Step 5: Activate Stitch & Scoop
Activate the Object Selection: Click on the parts of the Flute or use a shortcut (Ctrl+0). From the Edit menu, choose Select All or use a shortcut (Ctrl+A). Now activate the Boolean tools or use a shortcut (B). Here, choose the Difference or use a shortcut (B+D).

Select the objects to subtract: Choose mesh_8, mesh_8(1), mesh_8(2), mesh_8(3), mesh_8(4), mesh_8(5), mesh_8(6). Finalize the Difference.
Step 5: Create an object
Activate Cylinder: Select the cylinder from the 3D shape category or use a shortcut (P+Y).
Set the parameters according to requirements. Set the Top Radius to 18, Bottom Radius to 18, Height to 40, Vertical Segment to 64, Position X to 300, and Rotation Z to 90. Finalize the Cylinder.
Step 6: Isolate the Object
Click on Isolate or use a shortcut (V+I). Click to activate the Polygon Selection or use a shortcut (Ctrl+4).
Click on the Region to select it.

Next, Click on Delete or use a shortcut (Del) as shown above. Select Add Thickness Tool from Modify Category of Toolbar or use a shortcut (M+A). Set the Thickness to 1. Finalize the Add Thickness.
Next, click on the Show button to show the hidden object, which is difference_1.

Step 7: Copy the object
Activate Move: Click on Move on the Toolbar or use a shortcut (M). Next, click on the Copy button or use a shortcut (Ctrl+C). Set X to 146, click on the Copy button or use a shortcut (Ctrl+C) to copy the selected object. Set x to -304 and close the Transformation Panel.

We’ve created two identical wrapping cylinders.
Step 8: Copy the Object
From the Right Side Panel, click on the region of Cube or use a shortcut (Ctrl+0) to turn off the Region Selection.

Next, click on difference_1 to select it and click on mesh_12(2) to deselect it. Now select the Move option from the toolbar or use a shortcut (M). Here, set y to 1 and close the Transformation Panel.

Now you can color the Flute.
Conclusion:
Making the Long cylinder shape and also making the hollow holes is something that will come in handy when creating many other objects.
By following the instructions in this article, you will be able to replicate the flute easily. In case you get stuck anywhere, you can always ask for help, and we will be glad to help.
