A Complete Tutorial on How to 3D Design a Ghost and a Rocket in a CAD Software

3D designing can be smooth and fun when we use the apt software. It’s neither rocket science nor scary. So, allow us to guide you through creating a 3D ghost and a rocket using a 3D design software. The software that we are going to use is SelfCAD as it's easier to use and you don't need to have previous experience in design to be able to use it. This tutorial has two parts: creating the 3D design of the Ghost with the use of a Freehand Tool and 3D Designing a Rocket with the help of the already designed 3D Objects. Don’t forget to check out Rocket Interactive Tutorial and Ghost Interactive Tutorial.

SelfCAD has the feature of Freehand Tool in the Drawing Category. With this tool, you can freehand draw or trace the image to create the 3D Object. It’s easy to draw the object and make it 3D. Here we have the use of very few tools. You can also look at the 3D Design of Koala that is also created using the Freehand tool.

Let’s begin with the ghost!

Step 1: Select the Image.

We will start with selecting the Reference Image. In the Tool Panel, click on Add Image to select the Image you want.

Step 2: Draw with Freehand Tool.

Now, select the Freehand Tool from the Drawing category (F+B). In the Panel, choose the Spline (F+S) tool and draw on the Reference Image. You can see other tools on the panel. Spline is to draw curve objects. Next, set the smoothness to 20. Now with this, draw on the reference image.

Click on the Esc Button to stop Spline Drawing. We have drawn the outer border of the ghost. Next, let’s draw the eyes with the Circle tool (F+C) in the same freehand drawing tool. Set Mode to erase and Start Drawing the eyes.

You can see the red circle that shows our drawing. Click on Esc to stop drawing. Next, draw the smile with Spline (F+S). Once done, click on Esc to stop Drawing Stroke.

Finalize the Freehand Drawing.

Step 3: Draw the eyeballs of the 3D design.

Again Activate the Freehand Drawing Tool (F+B).

Creating the eyeballs

Then choose the Circle (F+C) and draw the circles.

Finalize the Freehand Drawing. We’ve 3D designed the Eyeballs. Then you can remove the Reference image, clicking on Remove Button.

Step 4: Rotate the 3D Design and color it.

Choose both the objects and then click on Rotate (R). Set X to -90. The Ghost 3D Design is now vertically placed.

Using the Color Picker tool, choose the color. We will color the Eyeball white and other parts of the 3D design Black. Click the object to color,  select the color and click on the Okay button to confirm the color of the object.

We’ve created an eager ghost!

Part 2: In this part, we are 3D-designing the Rocket. Basically, we are going to use the Move and Rotate tool to Modify the place of objects.

Step 1: Import the 3D objects.

We will design the 3D Rocket with the available objects. We have to just import the things that are already prepared. Start with clicking on File, click on Import (Ctrl+I).

Importing the 3D objects

The Objects are scattered and also Grouped. You can ungroup them by clicking on Ungroup from the Edit Menu (Ctrl+Shift+G).

Step 2: Rotate and Move the 3D objects.

Select the other 3d objects and keep one object selected so that we can position it.

Rotating and moving the 3D objects

Then click on Rotate (R) set z to -90.

Then Click on Move (M), set z to -1, x to 0.

Moving the objects

Select the other object and click on Rotate (R), set z to -270,

Then click on Move (M), click on the center object button (M+C) to center the object.

Placing the 3D objects to the center

Position the object. Set the parameters in Move, x to 0, y to 387, z to 0.

Positioning the objects

Select the other object. Then Activate Rotate (R), set z to 270.

Activating the rotate

Then with the Move tool, click on the center of the object button (M+C). Set x to 0, y to 305, z to 0.

Moving the objects

Select the other object and then Center it with the Move tool and set the parameters, x to 0, y to 264, x to 0.

The objects after positioning

We have left with the last portion of 3D-Designing. Select the object, Rotate (R) it with setting the parameters- set y to 270, x to -270.

Position with Move (M) and then click the center object button (M+C). Set x to 0, y to 123, z to 0. Close the Transformation Panel.

The rocket is ready to launch!

Conclusion:

We have 3D designed two 3D objects with various features and tools of SelfCAD. It is fun to 3D design an object that may be small, big, or complex. You can use the same technique to 3D design other 3D objects of your choice as well. So, we hope you find the tutorials informative and handy.
