3D Designing a Cup Holder in SelfCAD
3D Designing is a great skill and it’s useful in bringing ideas to life by creating 3D dimensional models. In this tutorial article, we are making a 3D model of a cup holder using SelfCAD. SelfCAD is one of the simplest, however incredible 3D design software that you can use to prepare both simple and complex designs with much ease.
Beginning with designing the Cylinder shape, we will change it with tools like Vertex, Polygon Selection, Move, Scale, and so on. SelfCAD is one of the most amazing 3D Modeling Software, including various highlights used to design the 3D-Objects. This tutorial directs the utilization of Vertex devices to make the shape that we wanted without upsetting the entire construction.
So, let's start!!
Step1: Creating the base of the cup holder
We are going to 3D design the base part of the cupholder. First, we have to insert a cylinder object on the working interface.
Next, we will use the mesh+wireframe cube. Then we can select the face polygon option. Select the circular faces on the top and bottom and delete them.
Step2: Adding thickness to the base of the 3D Design
Now we will add thickness. For that, we will go to modify and select the add thickness option. Then we will set the thickness to -5. So the mass will be inscribed on the internal walls of the hollow cylinder.
Step3: Adding small details to make the object look more professional
Next, we will go to modify and click on add details. Then by setting it on edge, we will opt for automatic loop finding.
Now we will click on the topmost circular edge and drag the cursor to a relatively lower ratio.
Step 4: 3D Designing the handle of the cup holder
Again we will use face selection and select two of the faces of the upper part and protrude it outwards. For that, we will go to modify and click on extrusion. Then we will extrude both the faces of the 3D object to some extent as shown in the 3d design below.
Next, we will again go to modify and select add details. Then we will add a single line on the middle part of the extrusion that we created. Now we can use face selection. Select both the bottom faces and extrude them with the help of the extrusion tool.
Pull it along the y-axis.
Now we will change it into a front view.
Then, here we can select the wireframe cube.
Next we will select the vertex selection. Choose all the vertices of the handle and go to the scale tool. Scale it to a bit smaller size and move it to the top using the move tool. We can adjust the handle using the move tool according to our preferences.
Step5: Re-adjusting the base of the 3D design of the cup holder
Now we will select all the vertices of the bottom and the circular face of the 3D model. Use the move tool to move it to the top. Then we can scale it to a smaller size using the scale tool.
Step6: Adding details to the 3D design using the edges
Now we can set it to the mesh+wireframe option. Next, we will go to modify and select the add details. Take the bottom edge reference and move the cursor to slightly above that.
Repeat the same process with all the edges of the bottom face of the 3D model as well as the top face. We can also do this with the edges of the handle or whichever place we want to add details.
Step7: Adding Smoothness to the 3D model
Next, we will be adding smoothness to the object. For that, we have to choose the face selection and then go to modify and click on the round object. Set the smoothness to 3.
This is the final product that we wanted to 3D design. The 3D model of the cup holder is ready!
Conclusion
We’ve used different types of tools of SelfCAD to 3D design the cup. We have fundamentally utilized the Vertex tool to adjust the cylinder to make the 3D model of the Cupholder. Vertex is one of the most significant tools of SelfCAD, and you can apply it in different designs too. Apart from figuring out how to 3D model the object, you can employ a similar procedure in 3D designing different models in SelfCAD. After you are done 3D modeling, you can use free software for 3D printing to prepare them for 3D printing by slicing and generating G-code that you can send to your printer.
