Designing an Illusion Vase Using SelfCAD
An illusion vase, often referred to as an optical illusion vase or reversible figure vase, is a type of artwork or design that creates the visual perception of two different images depending on the viewer's perspective. In the context of a 3D model, it typically involves creating a form that, when viewed from one angle, looks like one object (e.g., a vase), and when viewed from another angle, appears to be a different object or has a different shape.
For example, an illusion vase might look like a simple, straightforward vase when viewed from one side, but when you change your perspective, it could appear as two faces or other intricate shapes. These designs play with the viewer's perception, often utilizing principles of depth, shading, and perspective to create the illusion.
Step-by-Step Guide: 3D Modeling an Illusion Vase in SelfCAD
Launch SelfCAD
Open the SelfCAD workspace:
On the toolbar, click on the Image to 3D.
Click Add Image to upload an image from the computer:
Click on the check mark to use the uploaded image.
On the Tools category, select the Copy Offset tool. Set the Number of Copies to 1 and click on Copy.
Use the Move tool to move the copied part on top of the other as shown below:
Then on the Utilities category select Merge objects:
Merge the two objects:
Use the Scale tool to scale up the object:
Make another copy using the Copy Offset tool in the Tools category:
Use the Rotate tool to rotate the copy as shown below:
Use the Move tool to adjust and position it as shown below:
Use the Merge tool on the Utilities category to combine the objects.
Repeat the procedure, by selecting the combined objects and making a copy using the Copy Offset tool. Use the Rotate and Move tool to position the copy.
Use the Merge tool to combine all the objects:
On the 3D Shapes select a cube:
Use the Move tool to position the cube below the other object. Use the Scale tool to scale the cube to fit in below the vase model.
On the Utilities category, select the Merge tool to combine the cube and the other object.
On the Deform category, select the Taper tool and tape the vase as shown below:
On the Deform category, select the Twist tool and twist the object as shown below:
Twist it as shown below:
Then on the Tools category select the Magic Fix tool:
Click on the check mark to finalize the operation:
The illusion vase design is finally ready:
You can then go ahead and make modifications to your model, such as changing color and material.
This step-by-step guide provides a structured approach to creating an illusion vase using SelfCAD. Adjustments can be made based on your specific design preferences and the features you want to highlight in your illusionary 3D model.
