Cube Selection Tool in SelfCAD
The cube selection tool is one of the most useful tools in SelfCAD. It allows you to quickly select the faces of a cube that you want to edit. This tool is especially useful when you want to select multiple faces of a cube at the same time. In this section, we are going to look at the Cube Selection tool and its settings which you can use efficiently in your 3D modeling journey.
The Cube Selection tool is found on the right panel as the last in the list of selection tools:
When you click on the Cube Selection tool, a cube is added in your object, and more settings appear on the left panel:
At the same time, the Gizmos also appears on the cube. The Gizmos has the red, green and blue colors to denote the X, Y and Z axes. This means you can use the Gizmos to adjust the cube selection in whichever direction you want.
As shown above, if you lay the cursor on any of the axes denoted by the colors of the Gizmo, then the axis of interest will turn to yellow color. That means it is activated. For example, if you drag the Z axis or the blue color, the selection will be as follows:
If you drag from the right side as well, the cube will be selected in the middle as shown below:
On the Cube Selection tool settings, you can adjust the Units to be used. This can be either in Percentage or Size.
The next thing to note on the Cube Selection tool is to note the cube selection size you want to apply. For example from the Left_Right, from the Bottom_Top or from the Back_Front.
You can change the values manually to adjust to what you want. For example, if you set the Right_Left values as 45 and 138 respectively, this is how the selection will look like:
You can also use the Gizmo to make your adjustment to the Cube selection:
Then on the bottom of the Cube Selection settings, there is Exact Selection.
The exact selection tool enables the tool to select the polygons that only fall within the cube selection edges. Then the last option in the settings is Transparency.
The Transparency tool allows the objects to be transparent when the tool is in action. The cube selection tool is a great way to improve your efficiency when working with cubes in SelfCAD. With this tool, you can quickly select the faces of a cube that you want to edit, and then use the various SelfCAD tools to edit them.
