Carving Perfect Margins on 3D Scanned Teeth: How to do it
SelfCAD primarily focuses on 3D modeling, but one can still use this 3D design software to work on 3D scans. You would typically use a separate 3D scanning device or software to capture real-world objects, and then import those scans into SelfCAD for further editing, integration, or manipulation. This allows you to combine scanned elements with custom-designed models or modify scanned objects as needed within SelfCAD workspace.
In this section, you will learn an amazing technique for perfect margin carving using SelfCAD advanced 3D scanner editing tools. To start, launch SelfCAD and open the workspace:
From the top toolbar, on the File menu, select Import object:
Click Load Object from Tutorial:
On the right panel, activate the Polygon Selection tool. Then click on the gear icon to open the advanced settings of the Polygon Selection, which appears on the left panel. Set the Tolerance to 5, and set the Deep Selection to true:
Select the highlighted region as shown below, and then set the Tolerance to 0:
De-select the back side of the selected region. Select only the front part as shown below, and then click on the Copy button to make a copy:
On the right panel, click to activate the Edge Selection. On the left panel, click on the Select Loose:
Click on the “X” to close the selection settings panel. Then, click on the Copy button to make a copy of the selected object as shown below:
Click on the highlighted region, and select it. You can also use the marquee selection to select the region. Then click on the Edit menu found on the top toolbar, and click on the Delete button to delete the highlighted region:
Deactivate the object selection tools. On the toolbar, on the Drawing category, select the 3D Sketch:
From the tool panel, select Circle:
De-select the profile 1.
Click on the highlighted point below, to draw the circle.
Then type in 2 as the radius. Click again on the highlighted point to de-select the point. There you go, the circle is ready:
Select the Profile_1 on the right panel. Then on the Tools category on the toolbar, select the Follow Path tool:
On the left panel, set the mode to Extrude:
Tick the check mark to finalize the Follow path. On the right panel, select the difference_1. Then on the toolbar, from the Stitch and Scoop category, select Difference:
Select the Mesh_1 to subtract it.
Tick the check mark to finalize the operation.
On the right panel, click to activate the Inverse Selection:
On the top toolbar, from the Edit menu, click on the delete button:
Click yes to delete the selected objects:
