The SelfCAD's New Sweep Tool: How it Works
Creating smooth and clean geometry is one of the biggest challenges in 3D modeling, especially when sweeping a shape along a curved path. Traditional sweep methods can sometimes create sharp edges, overlapping faces, or nonmanifold geometry, making models harder to edit and prepare for 3D printing.
To make this process easier, SelfCAD introduces the new Sweep Tool and Solid Mode in it. Unlike the Exact mode, which follows the path closely but may create intersections, the Solid mode generates smoother, cleaner, and fully connected geometry. This makes it a great choice for creating complex shapes while maintaining high-quality meshes.

Steps to Using the New Solid Sweep Tool
Start by launching SelfCAD and open the workspace:

The Sweep Tool is located at the Tools category:

To explain how the solid sweep tool works, we will use several illustrations, to bring out the former and current transformation that the tool brings.
Select 3D Sketch in the Drawing category. Use the tools to sketch three profiles as shown:

How Follow Path Works
Select the ‘M’ and the square profile. On the Tools select Follow Path tool:

Choose Bottom/Top plane, and the mesh will look as follows if you preview:

For the Sweep tool, you will notice it chooses the plane automatically for you. Sweep Tool has two modes, that is, the Exact and Solid.
How the Exact Mode on Sweep Tool Works
In selection with the two profiles as above, select Exact mode of the Sweep Tool. The object will be as follows:

There is not much difference with the follow path tool when using the Exact mode. The mesh has sharp edges:

How the Solid Sweep Tool Works
Select the Solid Mode of the Sweep tool and the object will look as follows:

The edges are more smooth. The shape is not perfect because the profiles used are big.
When you finalize the edges are as smooth as shown:

On the Drawing category, use the Spline tool to sketch the profile:

Select the Sweep Tool, choose Exact mode and preview:

Finalize and select the highlighted face:

You realize that there is an intersection formed which later becomes problematic. You can turn on the Solid Wireframe mode to see the intersection, as shown:

This is nonmanifold. That is the kind of problem that the Solid Mode of the Sweep tool solves.
Delete that object, then select the object again with the square profile. Select Sweep Tool and this time, use the Solid mode:

Click Preview and the process takes a while. The results will be as follows:

Finalize the object and it brings out a perfect mesh:

Now select the top face and delete it, to be able to see the interior if there is any interaction:

You can see the interior is clean and manifold:

Let us try with the circle profile also. Select the circle profile with out profile 14. Select the Sweep Tool again and use Solid mode again:

Finalize and the object will be smooth and round as follows:

To see the interior, use the Cut With Plane tool to cut and split the object as follows:

Hide the bottom part of the mesh:

Finalizing, you can see the interior is perfectly manifold and well formed:

The sweep tool and the solid mode brings out the best geometry:
