How to Make a Nice Chopping Board With a Handle in SelfCAD

SelfCAD is an all-in-one 3D modeling and slicing software that is designed for both beginners and professionals. It has a simple and intuitive interface while still providing powerful tools for complex modeling. Unlike other 3D modeling programs that require extensive experience, SelfCAD allows users to design objects quickly without compromising on precision and detail. We shall be designing the chopping board below using various SelfCAD tools:

To design the chopping board, use the reference image. To do this, go to View menu on the top toolbar and choose Reference Image and click Add Image:

The next step is to make the sketch of the object. On the toolbar, select 3D Sketch from the Drawing category. Select the Rectangle from the tools panel:

Use Minimum Angle Step 15 and click on the highlighted points to draw the sketch:

After sketching the two rectangles, the next step is to draw the hole. Switch to Circle Tool from the tools panel:

The next step is to make the edges smooth and rounded. Activate the Edge Selection tool from the right side panel and select the highlighted edge by by the marquee selection:

Then click delete and an empty space is left in there:

To make the object more smooth, add more vertices. Select the Edit Details tool from the Modify category and select add Vertices. Add the highlighted vertices:

Activate Vertex Selection and select all the four added vertices. Use the Scale Tool to scale them down by 30. Select the two added bottom vertices and scale them down by 25 and click the “X” to close the transformation panel:

Select the Fillet Tool from the Modify category. Set the Level to 5 and tick the check mark to finalize the Fillet. All the edges become rounded:

Creating a chopping board with a handle in SelfCAD is a fun and useful 3D modeling project. It allows you to be creative while making something practical. SelfCAD’s easy-to-use tools help you design a chopping board that suits your needs, be it a simple shape or a detailed design with engravings. After 3D designing, you can use the in-built online slicer of the software to slice your designs and generate the G-code to send to your 3D printer. The video below shows the overview of the software.
