How to Design a Printable Cookie Form With the Use of the Inset Tool
The Inset tool in SelfCAD is a useful tool that lets you create an indentation or offset shape on the face of a 3D object. When you apply it to a selected face, it creates a smaller or larger version of that face within its boundaries, allowing you to add more details or layers to your design. To use the tool, you simply select the face where you want the inset, then adjust the Amount settings to control how much the face is inset. You can also adjust the depth to decide how far in or out the new shape will be. This tool is great for adding details like grooves, frames, or rims, and is especially helpful for designers looking to enhance their models or prepare them for further changes like extrusion.
Steps to Designing a Cookie Form in SelfCAD
In this section, we are looking at how to use Inset tool, 3D Shapes and other tools to create a cookie form. You can check out the interactive tutorial of SelfCAD to learn how to do it. Begin by launching SelfCAD and open the workspace:
Select the Cylinder from the 3D Shapes to form the basic shape:
Set the parameters of the cylinder as shown below:
Tick the check mark to finalize the cylinder. Activate the Polygon Selection tool on the right side of the panel and use it select the polygons of the cylinder all round. On the top toolbar, on Edit menu, click Delete:
You will be left with the bottom polygon only. Activate the Vertex selection and use it select the vertices as shown below. Click on the Scale tool and scale the vertices by setting X to 40:
Scale also by setting Z to 40 and the mesh will be as follows:
The next step is adding thickness to the mesh. On the Modify category, select Add Thickness and set Thickness to 1. Set Mirrored Thickness to true:
Tick the check mark to finalize adding thickness. Activate Polygon Selection and select the top polygon of the mesh. On the Modify category, select Inset and set the Amount to 3:
Click the Advanced Settings and click Add Option. Set the operation to Extrusion and set the Amount to 10:
Click Add Option again and set the operation to Inset and Amount to 1:
Tick the check mark to finalize the operation. Click Copy to make a copy of the top selected polygon. Select Add Thickness from the Modify category and set the Thickness to 12. Set the Mirrored Thciness to true and then click the check mark to finalize Add Thickness:
Select the mesh and the copy made. On the toolbar, select Stitch and Scoop> Difference. Select the copy made (mesh_4(1)) to remove it:
Tick the check mark to finalize Difference. There you go, the cookie form is ready:
You can then give the cookie form a color of your choice.
