SelfCAD's AI Assistant enables you to create 3D models by simply entering your needs in a text prompt. You can design the size, form, rooms, walls, doors, windows, roof, and other architectural features of a 3D-printable home. AI can then provide a preliminary 3D model, eliminating the need to manually construct each component using different tools and shapes.
For various 3D modeling workflows, the AI Assistant provides a number of Model Creation Modes. You might also have more options to manage how the house is generated, depending on the mode you choose.
Note: SelfCAD's AI features are experimental and are always being improved. In order to enhance the experience, users are urged to test the features and give comments.
Design a 3D Printable House Using SelfCAD AI Features: Step by Step Guide
In this post, we will use SelfCAD's AI features to construct a realistic and useful 3D-printable house. The procedure will also illustrate a key AI modeling principle: the created 3D model will be more accurate and practical the more exactly you describe the house's design, structure, measurements, walls, doors, windows, roof, and other characteristics.
Step 1: Open the 3D modeling workspace in SelfCAD.

Step 2: Choose the AI Modeling option from the toolbar

The AI Modeling interface allows you to define your design needs via a text prompt. Depending on the kind of thing you like to design, SelfCAD offers a variety of AI generating techniques.
The objective is to produce a well-organized architectural model with distinct walls, rooms, doors, windows, a roof, and other crucial components for a 3D-printable house. You can direct the AI to create a house model that closely resembles your design specifications and is ready for additional 3D printing preparation by giving it precise and comprehensive directions.
Step 3: Choose the Mode of Model Creation
The AI Assistant window will show up when you choose the AI Modeling feature. Here, you can select a model development mode, provide a detailed description of your concept, and the model will be created.
There are three possibilities for the Model Creation Mode selector in the AI Assistant:
- Functional Assembly
- Organic Model
- Profile
Each mode is made for a specific kind of model.
Choose Functional Assembly for the creation of 3D Printable House:

Functional Assembly is the best Model Creation Mode for creating a 3D-printable house because it is designed for models composed of numerous separate components. Walls, floors, doors, windows, roofs, and other architectural aspects that must precisely fit together can all be found in a house.
A structured, part-based house model that allows for individual component adjustments can be made with Functional Assembly. This facilitates the modification of the house's overall size, room arrangement, wall thickness, roof design, doors, windows, and other elements while preserving the relationships between the various components.
Step 4: Describe the Object you want to create
Give a detailed description of the overall shape, size, construction, wall thickness, rooms, doors, windows, roof type, and other architectural elements of the house you wish to create.
Additionally, you can define the sizes, level of detail, and 3D printing specifications. The AI will produce a more precise and organized house model that complements your design with the help of a clear and comprehensive description.

Step 5: Write a Prompt for Designing a Custom Sofaset
Now give SelfCAD a description of the house you want designed. As it gives the AI details on the house's style, dimensions, shape, structure, rooms, walls, doors, windows, roof, and general design, a thorough prompt is very beneficial. The AI can produce the desired model more precisely if you provide a more detailed description.
You can use the following prompt, as an example:
Create a detailed, 3D-printable miniature house model designed specifically for FDM 3D printing.
Design requirements:
- Create a compact single-story modern house with a rectangular floor plan.
- Include a main entrance door, 4–6 windows, and a simple pitched roof.
- Add a small front porch with steps leading to the entrance.
- Include subtle architectural details such as window frames, door frames, roof overhangs, and wall trims.
- Make the walls, roof, windows, and architectural details solid and structurally connected where appropriate.
- Avoid extremely thin walls, fragile decorative elements, floating geometry, and unnecessary overhangs.
- Use a minimum wall thickness of approximately 2–3 mm for reliable FDM printing.
- Make the roof removable or design it with a simple snap-fit connection so the interior can be accessed.
- Include a basic interior layout with separate rooms, doorways, and simple interior walls if the geometry allows.
- Keep the bottom completely flat so the model can sit directly on a print bed.
Prepare a Reference Image:
Attaching a reference image can help the AI comprehend your home's design better. A reference image helps convey the intended style, structure, and appearance while supplementing your written description with more visual information.
But your prompt shouldn't be replaced with the reference image. Note: It is not required to include a reference image. With just a thorough written prompt, the AI Assistant can create the house model.

Click the arrow below to construct the element after entering a prompt.

Step 6: Analyzing Request
The AI will analyze your request and take into account the overall design, proportions, components, shape, and structure of the house. It will use this data to produce the 3D components required to build the model in accordance with your requirements.

Step 7: Prepare Parts
The AI will assess your request, identify what is required, and prepare each part independently to create the whole 3D model.
The AI will process the analyzed request and have the elements ready when you click Prepare Parts.
AI-assisted modeling differs from conventional modeling. You communicate the intended design first and let AI select the geometry instead of creating primitives immediately and dealing with them yourself.
Ask For Modification:

Once all the elements have been prepared, you can continue to modify your design with AI. If any element needs to be adjusted, reshaped, resized, or customized, simply instruct the AI with your desired changes. It will modify the selected element according to your specific requirements, giving you greater flexibility and control over the final design, as demonstrated in the image above.
Step 8: Generate Elements
Before generating the geometry, the system displays a design overview, which contains the design concept, overall dimensions, complexity, and assembly type. After that, the model is broken down into separate parts, including the base foundation, main wall structure, and other elements unique to the design. Users can choose the elements they want to generate.
After reviewing the proposed elements, choose the parts you wish to incorporate into your house model by using the checkboxes next to each element. To create the chosen 3D elements, click Generate Elements in the Assistant window after making your selections.

During this process, the interface is changed to show the generation state of each element.

As each element finishes processing, its status changes from Creating to Ready.
Step 9: Assemble Model
Once all of the elements are ready, click Assemble Model.

Once you click Assemble Model, the model is ready. Next, choose Preview Assembly to view your model.
Step 10: Add to Scene the model

You can add the resulting house model to the SelfCAD scene if you are happy with it. After that, the AI-generated house is integrated into your ordinary SelfCAD workspace, where you may use the conventional modeling tools to continue tweaking and improving it.
This change is a crucial step in the process. AI Modeling offers the basic geometry, but SelfCAD’s conventional tools allow you greater control over the final design. To get the desired outcome, you can alter the house's dimensions, structure, architectural details, and other components.
Final Model:

If you want to change the color of your sofa set, click Color Picker, choose your preferred color, and apply it to the sofa set.
Understanding the AI Modeling Workflow:
AI-assisted 3D modeling provides a simple and repeatable way to transform ideas into detailed digital designs. The workflow can be summarized as:
Describe → Reference → Generate → Inspect → Modify → Refine
Begin by clearly describing the object you want to create and, if needed, provide a reference image. Once the AI generates the model, carefully inspect its shape, structure, proportions, and details. Use SelfCAD’s modeling tools to make any necessary adjustments and refine the design until you achieve the desired result.
The key takeaway is that AI acts as a design assistant, not a replacement for the designer. Your instructions, feedback, and creative decisions guide the model throughout the entire process.
Conclusion
The creation of a 3D-printable home using SelfCAD AI Modeling shows how AI may streamline the initial phases of architectural modeling. You can specify your intended design, provide a reference image, and let AI create a preliminary model rather than having to manually create walls, rooms, doors, windows, and roofs from scratch.
The capacity to refine and iterate the design is the primary benefit. You can give more precise directions and enhance the outcome if the house's proportions, room arrangement, wall thickness, roof form, or architectural elements need to be changed.
Once satisfied, add the model to the SelfCAD scene and edit it with standard modeling tools to prepare it for 3D printing.
