How do You Solve Ender 3 Not Extruding During Printing?
1. Extruder Parts Rotection
Scuffing of the Ender 3's extruder gear is one of the reasons for extruder skipping. An essential part of any 3D printer, the extruder gear holds and forces filament into the hot end. Wear and tear on the extruder gear's teeth might diminish the gear's grip on filament over time. As a result, the extruder may skip stages, or the filament may slip, which can cause uneven extrusion and subpar print quality.
In order to ensure that your extruder gear is still in good condition, it is vital to conduct regular visual inspections. Damage to the surface, rounded or flattened teeth, or the accumulation of debris are all indications of deterioration. Because of this, the extruder motor may skip steps, which causes the printed layers to be uneven and have gaps.
Nozzles can become clogged for several reasons. Among the most prevalent reasons is the gradual buildup of filament debris within the nozzle. The failure to adequately clean the nozzle between changing filament materials or the use of low-quality filament with contaminants are two possible causes of this waste. Heat creep, in which the filament becomes overheated as it moves up the nozzle, is another reason for nozzle obstructions. The weakened filament can potentially adhere to the nozzle walls, causing blockage in due time.
Keep an eye on the extrusion behavior when printing to detect a blocked nozzle. 3. Resolving Firmware Issues
If your Ender 3 suddenly stops extruding, checking the firmware should be a high priority. Firmware manages extrusion as well as the whole printing process. Extrusion issues could arise if the firmware is flawed or incompatible with your particular model.

You can use a filament spool to check if the hotend is getting hot enough by touching the nozzle. The hotend isn't doing its job if it doesn't begin to melt. Hold the heater cartridge wires tightly to the mainboard. If re-connecting them does not solve the problem, look for obvious damage to the wires. Changing the heater cartridge should fix the problem if the hot end continues to not heat despite the absence of visible damage.
If the heater cartridge still isn't working, the fault may be with the mainboard or power supply. One way to find the broken part is to use a multimeter to check the power supply. But if you want a permanent solution, you might have to swap out the motherboard or power supply.
5. Disrupted Extruder Stepper Motor
In the absence of a blocked nozzle and proper heating of the hot end, the extruder stepper motor may be at fault. To force the filament into the nozzle, the motor must be in good working order.
To make sure the extruder gear can spin freely, take the filament out first. Bring the axes to rest and raise the hot end temperature to 200 F. To control the extruder motor, either use the LCD controller or just enter the G1 E100 G-code instruction.
Take note of the extruder mechanism. In order to guide the filament towards the PTFE tube, it needs to spin anticlockwise. Verify that the extruder motor's connection to the motherboard is secure if it remains immobile. Check for damage and make sure the connections are snug.
If the connections appear to be fine, attempt linking the extruder motor to a different axis port on the motherboard, like the Z-axis driver. Problems with the initial driver or wiring could be the cause if the extruder gear spins with this configuration. Put the broken part back in place, and the issue will go away.
6. Adjusting Misconfigured Extruder Tension
Lastly, make sure the extruder is tight. Inadequate tension might cause the extruder gear to lose its grasp on the filament. To make it easier to observe the filament entering the PTFE tube, pull it back just a little. Bring the axes to rest and raise the hot end temperature to 200 F. To extrude filament, use either the LCD controller or the G1 E5 G-code instruction.
The tension needs adjusting if the filament either doesn't move or is ground down by the extruder gear. To get a solid but not overly tight grip on the filament, adjust the tension screw on the extruder. The filament must glide effortlessly, devoid of any grinding or slippage.
